Cyrille Aimee Stars in Scarsdale

aimeecroppedStar vocalist Cyrille Aimee made an appearance at the Scarsdale Library on Sunday and was greeted by a standing room only crowd. Publicist Stephanie Friedman who is a Scarsdale resident and a Friend of the Scarsdale Library arranged for this free post-Thanksgiving treat and the young singer's talent was clearly appreciated by the local crowd.

Though she is only 26 years-old, Aimee commanded the room and sang with an assurance far beyond her years. Accompanied by jazz guitarist Michael Valeanu who was a wonder himself, Aimee presented a range of songs in English, French and Spanish and scatted her way through diverse selections from the American songbook, Edith Piaf and even Thelonious Monk. Born of a Dominican mother and French mother, Aimee is able to sing swing, jazz and Latin tunes in many languages. Her repertoire in the 'Dale included familiar classics like "How Deep is the Ocean," "I'm in the Mood for Love" and "The Autumn Leaves," making it an easy performance to enjoy.

Aimee studied jazz performance in Westchester at SUNY Purchase and now plays at clubs, festivals and even on Broadway. It was a real coup for Friedman to lure Aimee to the suburbs for a free performance.

Aimee is beautiful, has great stage presence and amazing energy. She moves, grooves, snaps her fingers and uses her voice like a musical instrument to give a highly animated performance. Though I had heard her sing on the radio many times, seeing her live was ten times better. It was clear why Jonathan Schwartz plays her music so often on his weekend show. The best way to appreciate her music is to listen to it. Check her out here:

Commenting on the event, Michelle Lichtenberg, President of the Board of the Scarsdale Library said, "It was a great day. It is wonderful to see a standing room only audience. Thanks to the "Friends," for another of their great contributions to the library and the community. The community is looking for these types of cultural events and we hope to be able to expand the programs with the planned renovations and upgrade to the interior space of the library."
