Martin Luther King to be Honored At Westchester Reform Temple

An evening to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, with Reverend Darin Moore of Mount Vernon, pianist and conductor Peter Malinverni, and the Soul Voices will be held on January 15th at 7:45 at Westchester Reform Temple. Reverend Moore, Pastor of Greater Centennial A.M.E. Zion Church in Mount Vernon, New York, will be the guest speaker.  The evening will also include a gospel music program and freedom songs from Soul Voices and pianist/conductor Pete Malinverni.

Reverend Moore has been the Pastor of Greater Centennial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church since 1993, and was raised in the Mount Vernon. A graduate of Livingstone College in North Carolina, Purchase College and Yale University’s School of Divinity, Reverend Moore served as National President of the Pre-Alumni Association of the United Negro College Fund.  He was President of the Mount Vernon Board of Education for two consecutive terms. Among his many appointments, he currently serves as President of the United Black Clergy of Westchester and is the Founding Chairperson for Save our Seed Ministries.  Co-author of “Body and Soul: Conversations with your Physician and Pastor,” Reverend Moore has had his sermons published in such publications as American Pulpit Magazine.

Also featured in the evening is a gospel music program led by WRT’s pianist and conductor, Pete Malinverni. Minister of Music since 1992 at the Devoe Street Baptist Church in Brooklyn, Malinverni has written for and directed the Devoe Street Baptist Choir.  In 2005, he recorded with the choir “Joyful,” a collection of his Gospel-inflected interpretation of the Psalms of David.  Four years ago at Purchase College, where he serves on the faculty, Malinverni founded the Soul Voices, an on-campus choir dedicated to exploring the music of the African-American culture.  In 2009, he released a recording of “The Good Shepherd Suite,” his work for Choir and Jazz Orchestra, featuring the Soul Voices.
