An Original Farmhouse is Sold in Greenacres

6DonellanRoadOne of Scarsdale’s original farmhouses has recently sold. The house at 6 Donellan Road in Greenacres was built in 1899 and was known as the Donellan Estate. The property originally included 7 acres of orchards that were sold off to the Robert Farley Organization during the 1920’s to form 26 lots making up the neighborhood we now enjoy. The quiet street still feels like a country lane but is within walking distance of the Scarsdale train station.

The house has been restored but still includes many period details including a grand entry porch, moldings, high ceilings, arched doorways and a wood paneled library. The 14-room home is 4,640 square feet on three stories with 6 bedrooms.

Donellan was sandwiched between the 6.8 acre James Brite estate and the 3.7 acre H.D. Brewster estate which were all subdivided by the time of the 1930’s map of Greenacres above.donellanoriginalphoto

Also take a look at the ad for the original sale of the house which advertises a “Beautiful All-Year Country Residence in Scarsdale.” It describes a home with features like “electric light and gas,” and “a stable water supply.” It also says the surrounding orchards supply “plenty of fruit in good variety.” About the commute to the city it says, “Forty minutes from Grand Central” with “forty trains each way daily.”

Most recently, the house was listed for $2,999,000 by Angela Retelny of Compass Real Estate who said, “We are so honored and excited to represent the sellers of a true Scarsdale gem. A rare and magnificent Victorian with a dreamy front porch and extraordinary character. The location on Donellan Road, a quiet enclave on the heart of Greenacres, made this offering even more special. The property attracted lots of viewings and interest. We are happy to report the property is now in contract!”
