The Wrestling Team huddles up before their match.Last Tuesday, January 20th, the Boys and Girls Wrestling Teams were back in action as they met up at a dual meet against Yonkers in Gyms 1 and 2 at Scarsdale High School. This was the second match that Scarsdale hosted since their great success at a home tournament the weekend before. Later that week on Thursday, January 22nd, the Scarsdale Raiders Girls Basketball Team returned to the court for the first time since their two-game swing up in Springfield, Massachusetts. In this game, the ladies played Mount Vernon and earned a huge win

The boys and girls teams returned to the mat against a gritty Yonkers squad. Scarsdale started off strong with an automatic forfeit earning them a win right out of the gate. After Yonkers took the next couple of matches, Scarsdale started to take control and dominated. From that point on, they did not look back. Luke Iasello, Asher Millman, Jack Harrison, Andre Duvall, Ben Chase, Ben Xiao and Big A (Aiden) all earned wins for the boys. Jack Leptak and Ryan Roche earned wins off forfeits.

In the end, Scarsdale earned a 61-15 win moving them to 2-0 in league duals, putting them in competition to win the league title. A huge match-up against the Raider’s rival Mamo, will have big implications on their league standings.

The Girls Basketball Team had a dominant effort from start to finish against Mount Vernon. In the end, Scarsdale won 63-19 with the JV team earning a huge win in the aftermath of the varsity game.
At one point, Scarsdale held a 23-2 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 35-6 lead at halftime. Having such a big lead at halftime allowed Scarsdale to rotate each player into the game and made sure everyone got some touches of the ball. This rotation of players was great, not only for rest purposes, but for a big confidence builder knowing that everyone had a chance to see the court.
The Raiders celebrate after their big win.
Accurate shooting and ball movement was key to Scarsdale's success in this game and they hope to carry this momentum down the stretch and into playoff time. The girls head on the road for their next two games to play Ketcham and Harrison.
Junior Reese Newman had a strong game.
