Flowers Anyone? When the Scarsdale Flower Shop on East Parkway closed quickly after the death of owner Alan Eckstein on Tuesday January 3rd – many feared the worst… another reliable service gone from downtown and another empty storefront
Yet it turns out there’s more to the story – just around the corner.
German Chino, who managed the Scarsdale Flower Shop for the past five years, has reopened the Scarsdale Flower Shop on Harwood Court, next to Holsten Jewelers in the space previously occupied by Rhododendron.
Just in time for Valentines Day, the store is open and stocked with beautiful blooms. We saw some bouquets on their way out the door today and they were lovely. Scarsdale Flower shop still delivers, and has kept the phone number of the original store. So stop in to 7 Harwood Court or call 914-723-0852 to welcome the Scarsdale Flower Shop to their new home in the Village.
Downtown merchants are offering "Sweetheart Deals" for Valentine’s Day. From now through Valentine’s Day participating merchants are giving customers a discount (or gift) on their purchase when they present a Sweetheart Deals coupon at the time of purchase. Coupons can be found and redeemed at any participating Sweetheart Deals merchant. Look for the Sweetheart Deals poster in shop windows. The promotion lasts until February 14.
Last, the Scarsdale Adult School has another Valentine's Day idea: Purchase an enrollment (or two) in one of the adult school’s new cooking or wine courses.
The gourmand is sure to appreciate America Gonzalez’s “Cooking at Home: Great Chefs Series.” This two-session $145 class meets on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the instructor’s professional-grade home kitchen in Scarsdale. Learn to cook as Jean Georges Vongerichten, Ferran Adria, and Mario Batali do in their own homes with recipes for delightful meals that are inexpensive and simple to prepare.
For a more intense cooking experience, Gonzalez is also offering a 5-hour workshop in which she will lead students through six recipes from start to finish, culminating in a delicious sit-down meal. Choose from Asian fusion, Italian, or fish – or take all three. Each class is $145.
“Wines of the World” meets on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, from 8 to 10 p.m. at Aries Wine and Spirits. The store’s owners Tony Russo and Andrea Kish will take you and your significant other on a virtual trip through the most famous wine producing regions of the world. Wine made from at least six different countries’ most prestigious grapes will be sampled. Tuition is $30 plus a $20 sampling fee payable to the instructors.
Register yourself and your loved one or purchase an e-Gift card at ScarsdaleAdultSchool.org . Class size is limited, so register early.
