Backyard Sports Cares Raises $60K in Inaugural Three-on-Three Basketball Tournament

Backyard Sports Cares a Westchester-based non-profit that provides quality team sports programs for both underserved and special needs children successfully completed the first the inaugural Adult Three-on-Three Basketball Tournament, raising $60,000 for future program development.

Held on Sunday March 17, 2013 at the MSG Training Center in Tarrytown NY, the event had 300 attendees, including 35 teams participating in the round robin basketball tournament. Retired Knicks players Earl "The Pearl" Monroe and John Wallace, former pro and St. John's great Felipe Lopez and the Knicks City Dancers were on-hand to support the participants and the special needs athletes who gathered for a half-time scrimmage.

"Today's event was a huge success because of the dedication of the Backyard Sports Cares coaches, mentors, athletes and tournament participants," said Backyard Sports Cares Founder Danny Bernstein. "It drives home our core belief that sports participation should be available to all kids, regardless of economic or ability level."
Three-on-three tournament winners included House of Pain, with Scarsdale residents Mitch Kulick, Dave Feuerstein and Dan Brown (pictured at top) as well Moore Lob City and Buffalo Braves.

Lead sponsors included Rye Grill and Bar, Steiner Sports, AQR Capital Management, Laurence Polatsch Foundation, Houlihan Lawrence, Equinox and Modells.
