The UJA’s Scarsdale Women’s Philanthropy opening event will feature Ruth Gruber, a true feminist who defied tradition in an extraordinary career that has spanned more than seven decades. Born in Brooklyn in 1911, Ruth Gruber became the youngest Ph.D. in the world before going on to work as an international foreign correspondent and photojournalist at age 24. With her love of adventure, fearlessness, and powerful intellect, Gruber broke unprecedented barriers, becoming a woman of many firsts. Also see a clip from Ahead of Time: The Extraordinary Journey of Ruth Gruber, a documentary about her life here.
