The final scene of the final season of Boardwalk Empire was filmed at the Scarsdale Diving Pool on Wednesday August 27th. Crews set up on Tuesday for a scene that will made to look like it was filmed in the ocean off Atlantic City.
A production company who was looking for a pool that was 12 feet deep and could be closed to accommodate the filming approached Jason Marra, Superintendent for the Scarsdale Recreation Department, in April. The company paid Scarsdale $10,000 a day for 2 days to close the diving pool and also threw in $3,000 which will be used to replace the basketball hoops at the pool.
Marra said they were able to accommodate the crew without inconveniencing residents. During the last week of August day camp is over, some residents are on vacation, much of the pool staff goes back to college and the diving pool is often closed. Using it this week was a win-win for Scarsdale and the film crew.
Though Marra was not at liberty to divulge which actors were there, a major director who directed the last episode of the Sopranos was on the scene as well as a specialist in underwater filming who was flown in from California.
