Scarsdale Boys Tennis Sweeps Edgemont 7-0

TENNIS SINGLES 1On May 2nd, the undefeated Scarsdale Boys Varsity Tennis Team took a short trip to Edgemont High School where they proved their strength again. The team went into this match with a record of 6-0 and if this game showed anything, it’s that their record speaks to their talent. Scarsdale won all 7 of their matches against Edgemont.

In the first singles match, Sophomore Jack Reis won against Nick Peng with a score of 6-1, 6-2 with some of the fastest shots on the team. Finn Miller, playing second singles, was able to continue the streak with a victory of 6-0, 6-1 against Henrique Dos Santos Branco. In third singles, Scarsdale closed out strong with Jerry Jin winning both sets 6-2 against Divij Dogra. In terms of one-on-one matchups, Scarsdale was far superior to Edgemont, and that stayed true when it came to doubles matches as well.

TENNIS DOUBLES 1Playing first doubles was Will Misha and Leo Umansky who displayed pure dominance. They beat Sam Meyer and Simon Ascher with a final score of 6-0, 6-2 which continued Umansky’s undefeated streak this season when he has not lost a doubles match. In the second doubles match, Dylan Pau and Lucas Yao faced Bennett O’Reilly and Harley Pfeffer with the same outcome as all the other matches. At this point, Scarsdale won the match, winning 4 out of the 7 courts. Pau and Yao won 6-3, 7-5 making Scarsdale 5-0 against Edgemont.

The closest match of the day came from Scarsdale’s Drew Bender and Zach Pai who went against Zachary Phillips and Matthew Lau. The first set was a back-and-forth between the two teams and it went to a tie-breaker. However, due to some clutch serves and volleys, Scarsdale was able to win the set with a score of 7-6, (7-4) in the tiebreaker. Unlike the first set, the second was fully controlled by Scarsdale and Bender and Pai won it 6-1. The final matchup of the day came from Milo Sheth and Shinji Senda who also won.

After the matches were over, we asked Drew Bender how the team would take this momentum forward and he said, “We are excited for a huge week with two matches against Byram Hills. The team looks very talented this season and the goal is to win the state championship and do what we didn’t last year.” Bender is referring to the team making it to the state finals last year, but falling to Syosset at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The team now has a record of 7-0 and it looks like they aren’t slowing down any time soon.
