Notices: Sunday Speaker Series, Hat and Glove Drive

JudyChengHopkinsOn Sunday November 2 at 3 pm, the Scarsdale Forum Sunday Speaker Series will host Judy Cheng-Hopkins at the Scarsdale Woman's Club at 3:00 pm. The program is free and open to the public.

Judy Cheng-Hopkins, a 2013 recipient of the Distinguished Scarsdale High School Alumni Award, has just retired from a distinguished 36 year long career at the United Nations. Most recently, Judy served as the UN Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees. Before that, Judy served as the Director of the World Food Programme's Bureau for Asia and Eastern Europe, where she supervised the UN's most significant humanitarian operations in North Korea, Afghanistan, and Kosovo. Judy has just been appointed as the Special Advisor to the Secretary-General for the UN-mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica, where she also serves as Chancellor. Judy received a Masters degree in International Affairs from Columbia University, and she has diplomas/certificates from Harvard University and the University of Haute Bretagne.

 

Her talk, entitled "Peacebuilding: What, Why and How"" is underwritten in part by a generous grant from the Irving J. Sloan Education Fund, made possible by the Liz Claiborne-Arthur Ortenberg Foundation.

Hat, Glove and Scarf Drive:

hat glove scarfThe Westchester County Bar Association Diversity Committee has placed a collection container in the lobby of Scarsdale Village Hall, 1001 Post Road for this year's Hat, Glove & Scarf Drive which will benefit local veterans. All of the collected items will be presented to the FDR Veteran's Hospital located in Montrose, New York.

Donations will be accepted through the end of December. Village Hall hours are 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; Monday through Friday.
