Police and Fire: Vehicle Carrying Prisoner Struck on the Bronx River Parkway

On February 15, firefighters were dispatched to the intersection of Fox Meadow Road and Crane Road for a reported car accident with injuries. On scene, firefighters encountered a two-car accident involving a Westchester County Police SUV that originated on the Bronx River Parkway and was moved to Fox Meadow Road. The County police officer stated that his vehicle was transporting a prisoner to White Plains when it struck a vehicle on the BRP. EMS was requested to evaluate the prisoner who was complaining of back pain. Firefighters remained on scene until Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps arrived and released firefighters. One patient was transported to Westchester County Medical Center for evaluation. The driver of the other vehicle refused medical attention.

Stolen
A Chesterfield Road man reported $800 in ski equipment was stolen from his property Feb. 13.
On Feb. 16, a Carstensen Road man reported that his iPhone worth approximately $800 had been stolen from his car on an earlier date.

On Feb. 17, a Mamaroneck Road business owner reported that she believes an employee has been stealing money from her business. She said she did not want to press charges – but rather she wanted police to escort the employee away from her place of business.

On Feb. 18, a Garth Road person reported his cell phone had been stolen in New York City over the weekend, and the thief allegedly was able to log into the person’s cell phone accounts and transfer out money.

Car break-in
On Feb. 12, a Post Road man reported his parked car had been entered and ransacked overnight. The man’s wife’s glasses and loose change were reported missing.

Arrest
On Feb. 16, police arrested Jesus M. Rivera, 33, of the Bronx, on the strength of an active bench warrant issued for failing to appear in court for a scheduled court date. Rivera was picked up by Westchester County police with regard to a separate matter and transported to Scarsdale police headquarters where his arrest was booked and processed. Following the processing of Rivera’s arrest, he was remanded to Westchester County Jail and ordered to appear in court on Feb. 16.

Identity theft and fraud
On Feb. 12, a Richbell Road woman reported someone filed a fraudulent unemployment claim in her name earlier this month.

A Brite Avenue man reported that she received a letter from a secondary health insurance company stating that $18,000 in medical expenses had been approved and covered in full. The man said he neither required nor received the services outlined in the letter. He informed the insurance company, which said it would investigate the claim.

On Feb. 16, A Fayette Road man reported fraudulent withdrawal and deposit transactions on his bank account. He said his bank had conducted an investigation and determined all transactions were “legitimate.” He said he has taken issue wit the bank’s investigation and is working to resolve the matter.

Suspicious
On Feb. 10, a Cornell Street resident reported “suspicious activity” in the area. He said he had a video of an unknown person on his property.

Assistance
Police helped White Plains police department look for suspects related to a burglary attempt on Soundview Drive in White Plains Feb. 13. It appeared that the individuals fled toward Fenway Golf Club. Police canvassed the area for the suspects but did not find them.

Cars and roadways
A water main cap was sticking out of Ogden Road Feb.12. Police placed a cone over the unseated cap and notified the highway and water departments for repair.
On Feb. 13, police conducted a traffic stop of a 45-year-old Mount Vernon man who was failing to maintain his lane while driving on Popham Road. Police conducted a traffic stop and cited the driver for crossing the double yellow line, passing on the left in an unsafe manner, driving in the wrong lane ad other moving violations – as well as for driving with a suspended registration, a suspended license and a lack of insurance.
On Feb. 13, police advised a Wayside Lane resident to contact his cable provider about a fallen wire on the resident’s property.
Police cleared a fallen branch from Heathcote Road Feb. 13.
On Feb. 13, police notified utility providers about fallen wires on Kingston Road, Sheldrake Road, Oak Way, Lockwood Road, and Brite Avenue.
A branch fell with downed power lines on Chesterfield Road Feb. 13. Police blocked the roadway for safety and made proper notifications about the fallen wire.
A tree allegedly fell on a UPS truck on Greenacres Avenue Feb. 13. When police arrived only the fallen branch remained in the road. Police notified the highway department for removal.
A fallen tree was blocking access to the Bronx River Parkway on River Road Feb. 14. Police stood by until the tree was removed by the highway department.
A black minivan reported to be circling the road on Rock Creek Lane was a car service looking for a scheduled pickup address Feb. 15.
A tree fell on Brittany Close, striking a parked Tesla on the street, Feb. 15. The tree belonged to the owner of the car.
Police put out temporary stop signs and notified the Department of Transportation about an improperly cycling traffic light on Weaver Street Feb. 15.
Police called for roadside service to help a woman who accidentally locked her car keys inside her car on East Parkway Feb. 15.
Con Edison was called about a utility pole that fell with wires on Wheelock Road Feb. 15.
Con Edison was notified about a branch resting on wires on Mamaroneck Road Feb. 16.
Verizon was informed about a low-hanging wire on Church Lane Feb. 16.
A car hit Heathcote Road curbing and would no longer start Feb. 17. Police called for a tow.
Police placed broken furniture out of the roadway and called for sanitation pickup on Post Road Feb. 17.
Police helped push a disabled car to a safe location on East Parkway to await a tow Feb. 18.

Four car accidents were officially reported in the Village this week.

Village code
On Feb. 16, illegally posted advertising signs were removed from the Village right of way on Fenimore Road, and a summons was issued to the owner of the signs.

A man was going door to door to solicit snow removal Feb. 13. A Paddington Road resident complained. Police advised the man he need a permit to solicit business in the Village. Police also advised kids were shoveling neighbors’ driveways for money.

Animals
Police reunited a loose dog with its Overhill Road owner by using information on the dog’s collar Feb. 13. The dog ran out when its owner opened the door to go out.

A Manor Lane resident heard attic noises, unsure if it was a person or an animal Feb. 17. Police checked the attic and found nothing living there.

Lost and found
A Fox Meadow Road woman reported losing her eyeglasses in a tortoise shell case somewhere in the Village Feb. 14.

Lost equipment was reported on Feb. 14.

On Feb. 15, a Parkfield Road resident reported that front door decorations were missing.

A Cushman Road woman reported losing license plates because she threw them out at the sanitation yard Feb. 16.

A black flowered wallet was reported lost on Spencer Place Feb. 17.

Firefighters
On Feb. 13, firefighters helped a Bell Road resident get back inside the house after the resident accidentally got locked out.

On Feb. 14, firefighters helped a Fenimore Road nanny get back inside her employer’s house after she accidentally got locked out.

Firefighters assisted with a car accident on Palmer Avenue Feb. 14.

On Feb. 15, firefighters assisted with a car accident on Nelson Road.

On Feb. 16, firefighters were dispatched to Hanover Road for a report of power lines down in the street. Firefighters found a large fallen tree and downed power and communication wires. Police marked off the area with scene tape. Con Edison Electric responded, verified that the downed wires were de-energized and released firefighters. Police assisted with traffic control.

Firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of fallen wires on Wheelock Road Feb. 16.

An Amazon delivery driver accidentally locked his keys in the back of his truck on Chase Road Feb. 16. Firefighters were unable to force open the truck without causing serious damage, so they advised the driver to call a locksmith.

Spilled gasoline was causing a worrisome odor on Christie Place Feb. 16. Firefighters spread absorbent powder on the gasoline to help with cleanup.

An oil burner malfunctioned and started smoking on Walworth Avenue Feb. 16.

From the New Rochelle Police:
On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at about 3:24pm, New Rochelle Police responded to the Train Station on a report of an assault. Upon arrival, Police located the victim, a 65-year-old male, who stated he was punched in the face by the suspect, who then fled the scene. The victim said the suspect approached him and asked if he had money. When the victim told him “no,” the suspect punched him in the face and fled. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for injuries to his face and head. Police developed leads and were able to find the suspect about an hour later when he returned to the train station. He was taken into custody without incident. Troy Williams, 41 years of age, of Mt Vernon was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree – D Felony.

On Sunday February 18th, 2024, at about 4:10am, New Rochelle Police responded to the area of 25 Maple Avenue on a report of an assault. Upon arrival, Officers located two males each with stab wounds. One victim sustained a stab wound to the top of his head, and the other to his upper chest. Both sets of injures were later deemed to be non-life threatening. Officers developed leads and found that this incident stemmed from a dispute that occurred earlier at 596 Main Street, the La Clave nightclub, between the two victims and the suspect.

The suspect is described as a light skinned Hispanic male approximately 5’ 9”, wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.
