Police Report: Gambling Den Raided, Fatal Motorcycle Accident, Masked Thieves Steal Merchandise at 7-Eleven

New Rochelle Police make arrests at Gambling Den: On Aug. 21, 2026, at approximately 8:30 pm, members of the New Rochelle police department's criminal investigations division executed a search warrant at 142 Union Avenue, commonly known as the Union Avenue Sports Bar. During the search, investigators located a private room in the rear of the establishment where illicit gambling activity was occurring. Investigators seized four video-style slot machines. The business will be referred to the New York State Liquor Authority for multiple violations and a license review. Gisselle Lopez, 35, of New Rochelle, was arrested on site. She is accused of four misdemeanor counts of possession of a gambling device and one misdemeanor count of promoting gambling in the second degree, Lopez was issued a desk appearance ticket returnable on Sept. 1, She was released, pending further court action.

Fatal motorcycle accident in New Rochelle

At approximately 12:00 am,. Aug. 25, New Rochelle police responded to a report of a serious motorcycle accident on the northbound lane of Pinebrook Boulevard near the intersection of Beechmont Dr. in New Rochelle. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a motorcycle had collided with a metal bollard surrounding an electrical utility box located just off the roadway. The driver, a 27-year-old male resident of New Rochelle, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger, an 18-year-old male, sustained minor injuries and received treatment from emergency medical personnel.The cause of the accident remains under active investigation. The identities of both the deceased driver and the passenger are being withheld pending proper notification of family members. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could assist investigators is urged to call the New Rochelle police department on the non-emergency line at (914) 654-2300.

Arrested

On Aug. 19, Qing Gao, of Hampton Rd., turned herself in at police headquarters based on a warrant issued for failure to appear in court. She was charged with third-degree bail jumping. She was arraigned, fingerprinted and released on her own recognizance.

Following a traffic stop on Mamaroneck Rd., on Aug. 20, police arrested Jeffrey Lopez, 50, of the Bronx, on charges of driving while using a portable electronic device, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving left of pavement markings, unsafe moving from a lane, operation of a motor vehicle by an unlicensed driver and operation of a motor vehicle without insurance.Police learned during the license check that it had been suspended previously. Lopez was released on his own recognizance with an appearance ticket for Village Justice Court.

Stoplifting

Around 2 am, Aug. 24, police received an anonymous call reporting that three individuals inside the 7-Eleven store, on Scarsdale Ave., shoved the employee and stole merchandise. Patrol arrived and learned that three unknown individuals wearing ski masks entered the store with a backpack, removed unknown items and fled on foot. Patrol spoke with the involved employee, who stated he was unable to determine what items were taken, and he did not have access to the store's surveillance cameras. The employee further stated he was not injured and does not wish to press charges at this time.

Car break-ins

On Aug. 18, a Heathcote Rd. woman reported that her handbag had been stolen from her parked car overnight. She had doorbell camera footage of the incident.

A Johnson Rd. resident and a Forest Lane resident each reported that their cars were entered overnight from Aug. 21 into Aug. 22. Nothing of significant value was reported missing. The cars' interiors were rummaged through. During that same overnight period, a car was rummaged through on Madison Ave., and the owner's wallet, driver's license and at least six other items were stolen.

Scams and identity theft

On Aug. 17, a Fox Meadow Rd. resident advised that she received a letter from a university loan office stating she was approved as a cosigner for a $9,500 loan. She said she never applied for a loan and called the university to inform them. The university loan office flagged this as fraudulent. The woman's credit is credit is currently on a freeze.

On Aug. 22, a Gorham Court resident reported being the victim of online fraud. He found multiple unauthorized charges on his credit card.

On Aug. 22, patrol met with a Parkfield Rd. man regarding a check that he believed had been taken from his home and cashed by a hired nanny. The check was prepared in the name of the nanny without his authorization. He asked the nanny about the check and stated that she denied preparing and cashing it.

Trespassing

On Aug. 22, a Brite Ave. resident reported that an individual was on her back porch and she would like him to leave her property. She further stated that he has been told in the past that he is not welcome on her property. Patrol met with the man and advised him that he was no longer welcome on the property. He left without incident.

Missing

On Aug. 22, a Palmer Ave. resident reported she could not find various items inside her house. She stated she discovered a window that she had left unlocked and believed someone had entered her residence without her permission over the past four nights. The resident was uncooperative and did not allow police to conduct an investigation to gather evidence. She even requested that patrol leave her residence.

Siding

On Aug. 21, a Mayflower Rd. woman reported that a man entered her property on Aug. 20 around 3 or 4 pm. He was carrying a hammer, and he used ti to remove a piece of siding from her house. She yelled at him to stop. She told him she did not want any siding removed. It was apparently a mistake. The man attempted to reinstall the siding. The woman stated the individual left without incident. The woman still has damage on her siding but only wished to document the incident and not press formal charges. The individual was described as a white man with a grey beard, wearing a blue bandana, neon shirt and jeans. The individual operated a white Honda SUV or truck.

Welfare check

On Aug. 21, police checked the welfare of a Colvin Rd. resident. Everything was in good order.

Cars and roadways

The highway department was notified about a fallen tree on Eton Rd. Aug. 18.
Police removed a fiber optic cable from a Boulevard driveway on Aug. 18.
On Aug. 18, police removed a fallen wire from Ferncliff Rd. and notified Verizon.
On Aug. 18, police assisted a driver with a flat tire move her car away from Post Rd. to safely wait for a tow.
On Aug. 20, police notified Con Edison about a tree on wires on Church Lane.
Fallen trees and power lines were down on Brite Ave. Aug. 20.
Flooding caused Clarence and Sprague roads to be closed on Aug. 20.
A traffic signal was out at Fenimore Rd. and Walworth Ave. Police erected a portable stop sign.
Police moved a fallen tree branch from Post Rd. Aug. 22.
Two car accidents were reported in the Village this week.

Teens

On Aug. 22, police dispersed a group of approximately five teens from Edgewood School grounds after dark.

Dogs

A lost dog was reunited with its owner on Whig Rd. Aug. 18.

A lost dog was reunited with its owner on Oak Lane Aug. 19. Police issued the owner appropriate summonses.

A Brite Ave. caller requested emergency medical services due to a dog bite Aug. 21. The bite occurred when the dog's owner was letting the dog out of the owner's car in a shared driveway.

Village code

On Aug. 17, a young girl was fishing, catch and release style, at Olmsted Pond with her grandparents. Police explained that fishing in Village ponds was not permitted.

Police removed and discarded illegally placed signs from Walworth Ave Aug. 18, Fox Meadow Rd. Aug. 19, Rock Creek Lane Aug. 20, Mamaroneck Rd. Aug. 21 and Heathcote Rd. Aug. 22. Summonses were issued as appropriate.

A pool party on Brite Ave. was too loud, and neighbors complained Aug. 22. Police advised the homeowner who agreed to make sure her guests got quieter.

Lost and found

On Aug. 17, a Popham Rd. woman reported that on July 31, she went to Chase Bank and withdrew $450. Upon returning home, she found she only had the receipt for the transaction in her purse. She could not find the envelope containing the cash. She believed she left it on the counter. The bank required a report to review security footage, she said.

On Aug. 20, a Montrose Rd. resident reported losing a license plate somewhere in the Village.

On Aug. 22, a Hutchinson Ave. resident reported losing a license plate somewhere in the Village.

Firefighters

On Aug. 19, Firefighters stood by for Con Edison while ventilating a Harvest Dr. house due to a gas odor.
On Aug. 19, firefighters assisted the Greenville fire department in overhauling a school building affected by a fire in Greenburgh.
On Aug. 20, firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of an arcing wire, with a tree leaning on it.
On Aug. 20, Heathcote Rd. basement was flooding, and the electrical panel was compromised. Firefighters found water entering the basement through the wall where the electrical ground entered the foundation. foundation. The ground was saturated with water from a storm; the high water table was creating a water condition. Firefighters isolated the water condition in the basement to prevent intrusion on the electrical panel. The electrical panel was dry and not compromised. The water condition was being exacerbated by a water
drainage issue. Water from an interior sump pump and a leader pipe from the roof deposited water near a basement window, above the electrical panel. Firefighters dug a culvert to direct water away from the structure.They also pumped out an exterior drainage pit in the front yard. The drainage piping between the leader pipe on the house and the drainage pit appeared to be compromised. The PVC pipe from the drainage pit to the storm
sewer system also appeared to be clogged. Firefighters drained water levels as much as possible and advised servicing the water protection system.
Firefighters assisted the Greenville fire department with a structure fire in a commercial building on Central Ave. Aug. 21.
Firefighters assisted at car accidents on the Bronx River Parkway Aug. 21 and 22.
