Two Arrested in Village This Week and Harwood Ct. Business Reports Theft of Goods Due to Bad Check

Arrests: On Aug. 26, following a traffic stop on Garth Rd., police arrested a driver -- Jhon A. Escobar Renao, 37, of Yonkers. He was charged with vehicle and traffic offenses including driving the wrong direction on a one-way street, second-degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operation of a motor vehicle by an unlicensed driver. He was released with an appearance ticket on his own recognizance.

On Aug. 28, police received a call from Ardsley police because an individual wanted in Scarsdale on a bench warrant had been picked up for another offense in Ardsley. Scarsdale police went to Ardsley to pick up the defendant. -- Olga Dimopoulos, also known as Christine Dimopoulos, 58. She was charged with failure to appear in court, which was the reason for the bench warrant against her. Following her arrest, she was issued an appearance ticket and released on her own recognizance.

Stolen
On Aug. 28, a Harwood Ct. business owner reported a theft from the business due to a customer, from Yonkers, issuing a bad check. At least 17 items were stolen from the business.

Scam
On Aug. 30, a Mamaroneck Rd. woman reported receiving a call from an unknown person asking for $4,000 to be sent to the person to help resolve legal issues related to the woman's son. The woman sent the money to the unknown caller. Later, she realized it was a scam.

Dispute
On Aug. 25, police helped mediate a dispute between a Christie Place resident and a home health aide. The process of changing aides was explained to the resident.

A Palmer Ave. resident told a Palmer Ave. bank employee that she was afraid to go home due to a dispute with a neighbor Aug. 26. The bank employee called the police. Police spoke with the resident who said she was not really afraid to go home. She refused assistance.

Cars and roadways
On Aug. 26, police removed a fallen utility wire from Walworth Ave.

On Aug. 28, police asked drivers to move construction vehicles parked on Fox Meadow Rd. to improve traffic flow.

The highway department and utility companies were notified about a branch on wires on Kelwynne Rd. Aug. 30.

This week, summonses were issued to four drivers for registration and licensing violations at traffic stops in the Village.
One car accident was officially reported in the Village this week.

Animals
On Aug. 27, a raccoon was hissing at a woman on Butler Rd. Police went to the scene and the animal appeared aggressive and would not move. It was in a location where police could not safely remove it. Police recommended that the woman call a trapper.

Village code
Police removed and discarded illegally posted signs from Heathcote Rd. Aug. 24, Penn Blvd. Aug. 25, Vernon Rd. Aug. 26 and Post Rd. Aug. 29.

Four individuals were found at the sanitation yard after dark Aug. 25. Police escorted them back to their cars, and the individuals were told to return during regular business hours.

On Aug. 29, workers were working at an Aspen Rd. house outside of allowable hours. Police advised workers of Village code, and the workers stopped.

Construction workers were playing loud music on Aspen Rd. Aug. 29. Police advised them that neighbors had complained of noise. The volume was promptly lowered.

Lost and found
On Aug. 24, a passerby found a credit card on Dept Place and gave it to police. Police contacted the owner. The owner sent her husband to headquarters to pick up the card.

Firefighters
On Aug. 24, firefighters locked out a malfunctioning elevator at Depot Place at the Scarsdale train station.

On Aug. 25, firefighters cut an old bike lock on Meadow Rd.

Particle board behind a stainless steel backing plate on an Autenreith Rd. stove ignited Aug. 25. Firefighters extinguished the board and recommended calling a plumber and contractor to reconnect the stove and repair the damage.

Firefighters assisted at a car accident on the Bronx River Parkway Aug. 26.

On Aug. 26, firefighters observed workers in a 3 ft. by 6 ft. trench at Mamaroneck Rd. and Palmer Ave. They advised work to stop until the trench was reinforced by shoring for safety.

On Aug. 27, firefighters assisted Greenburgh firefighters at a structure fire in Hartsdale.

A gas odor was detected in a Montgomery Rd. house Aug. 28, Firefighters stood by for Con Edison. It was determined that a contractor working on a gas fireplace forgot to reignite the pilot light.
