Police Report: Jewelry Stolen from Fox Meadow Road, Fake Gun Surrendered, School Bus Accident

Stolen: On Sept. 18, a Fox Meadow Rd. resident reported assorted jewelry items were stolen from her house.

Identity theft
On Sept. 14, a Carthage Rd. resident reported that fraudulent charges appeared on one of his credit card accounts, and an unknown person set up fraudulent phone accounts on his phone.

A customer used a stolen credit card number to make fraudulent charges at a Garth Rd. store Sept. 16. The person who used the card returned to the store on Sept. 19 but left before patrol arrived.

On Sept. 18, a Park Rd. woman reported that someone used points from her American Airlines rewards account to fraudulently purchase a $300 gift card.

A Fenimore Rd. couple reported, on Sept. 19, that they had been contacted by someone alleging to be from American Express, stating that a fraudulent account had been opened in his name. He was directed to file a report and include a copy of his driver's license. He did so and then realized the call had been a scam.

Garbage
On Sept. 18, a Penn Blvd. resident reported that two men driving a U-Haul dumped garbage on her property. The garbage consisted of a plastic tarp, wire, fixtures and bamboo. Police called sanitation workers for trash pickup.

Delivery issue
A delivery driver attempted to deliver packages requiring payment to a Leatherstocking Ln. address Sept. 17. The intended recipient said he did not owe any money and that all the bills had already been settled. The driver said his system would not permit delivery of the packages. The intended recipient stood in front of the driver's truck, preventing him from leaving the driveway. He called police, who mediated the situation.

Homeless
On Sept. 16, a homeless man on Depot Place told police he was resting and refused assistance. He was told to continue on his way.
A homeless woman was sleeping on a bench inside Village Hall on Post Rd. Sept. 16. She refused assistance and was sent on her way.

Help
An elderly woman was dropped off at a bank on Wilmot Rd. Sept. 15. She appeared disoriented and upset. Police checked on her. She said she had an account issue and did not request further assistance. Bank staff said they were trying to resolve the account issue.

A Farragut Rd. resident brought a pistol-like device to headquarters for surrender Sept. 20. Police determined it was a prop. Police threw it away.

Disputes
On Sept. 16, police mediated a situation between a Sheldrake Rd. woman, who was having memory issues, and a home health aide. The aide agreed to stay in a different room of the house until the woman's son could arrive.

On Sept. 19, a Garth Rd. restaurant employee reported a verbal argument he had with a coworker.

Faulty ATM
A woman reported a faulty ATM at Chase bank on East Parkway Sept. 19. She said on Sept. 14, she attempted to withdraw $450 cash from an ATM at the bank, but the transaction was declined. She tried again and successfully received $450 cash. However, the bank charged her for both withdrawals. The bank asked her to file a police report about the incident.

Funds
On Sept. 20, a Morris Ln. resident reported that he used a known bookkeeper to sell tennis event tickets for him and has not yet received the expected funds. He said he has used the bookkeeper in the past to sell tickets, but he does not know if he ever received any funds from the transactions because he neglected to check his accounts. He planned to do more research by looking at his accounts. He said he would contact police again if he noticed more missing funds.

Cars and roadways
On Sept. 14,15 and 16, police asked drivers to move their cars from roads being paved by Village work crews.

This week, police issued summonses to five drivers for registration and licensing violations, following traffic stops in the Village.

Two car accidents were reported in the Village this week.

On Sept. 14, a school bus and a truck got into an accident at Gorham and Montrose roads. No injuries were reported. The parents of the students on the bus picked up their kids.

Water was leaking on Popham Rd. Sept. 14. The water department was advised for repair.

Animals
An injured coyote was observed on Meadow Rd. Sept. 15. Police provided trapper information to the resident.

Village code
Police issued landscapers using gas-powered leaf blowers summons on Broadmoor Rd. Sept. 16.

Police removed and discarded illegally posted signs from Sprague and Bell roads Sept. 18 and Heathcote Rd. Sept. 19. Summonses were issued as appropriate.

On Sept. 19, police received three noise complaints about loud, "thumping" music in Greenacres. Police spoke to residents having a party and advised them of the complaint. They promised to lower the volume of the music.

A refrigerator truck parked on Chase Rd. was making a loud sound that bothered nearby resident who complained on Sept. 20. Patrol asked the driver to move the truck.

Lost and found
A resident came to headquarters on Sept. 14 to report losing a license plate somewhere in the Village.

On Sept. 14, a lost wallet was dropped off at headquarters. The wife of the owner picked it up.

A wallet found on Spencer Place was returned to its owner Sept. 15.

On Sept. 19, a passerby found a bag containing miscellaneous items, including dresses, on Chase Rd. The bag was given to police for safekeeping.

A pink and blue child's bike was found at Davis Park Sept. 19. Police vouchered it for safekeeping.

On Sept. 20, a resident lost his iPhone in the proximity of East Parkway and Spencer Place.

Firefighters
On Sept. 14, firefighters assisted at a car accident on Post Rd.

Firefighters cleaned up broken glass from Montrose Rd. Sept. 14.

A sewage backup was causing an odor in a Crossway house Sept. 14. Firefighters suggested calling a plumber.

A housekeeper burning paper in a metal bucket in the backyard of a Kent Rd. house caused a false fire scare in the neighborhood 15.

On Sept. 15, workers used a gas-powered blower to clear dust from a basement floor in a Cohawney Rd. house. It activated the carbon monoxide detectors. Firefighters ventilated the space.

Firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of a gas leak in a Haverford Ave. house Sept. 18.

Firefighters locked out a gas pump on Ramsey Rd. after the hose broke and gas leaked out Sept. 19. The gasoline evaporated. A supervisor was notified for repair.
