At a briefing with the League of Women Voters on Monday morning October 31, Village Manager Al Gatta revealed that 2,800 village homes are without power --- a greater number of homes than were dark in March, 2010 --and the largest number of homes without power in his tenure as Village Manager.
Village teams have been hard at work picking up branches and clearing roads, but officials at Scarsdale Village Hall can do little to get service from Con Ed crews. As of Monday at noon, almost 48 hours after the onset of the storm, no repair crews are in the Village.
In other Village news, there will be no trick or treating tonight. As there are still live wires on the ground, it is not recommended that children trick or treat tonight. The Village has not set a new date to celebrate Halloween. In an email from Mayor Flisser, she recommends that you “keep children safe by rescheduling this evening’s activities.” She cautions against downed wires, heavy equipment and icy roads.
When will power be restored? Gatta says that Con Edison has promised to have power back in all homes by midnight on Wednesday November 2nd, but looked skeptical when making this statement. When pressed, Gatta said that he wouldn’t be surprised if it took until Friday for repairs on some streets.
Where can you go to get warm? Some are hanging out at the library where there is internet service and others are staying with friends or at local hotels. Rose at Five Corners Properties at 300 Heathcote Road in the old Scarsdale Ambulance Corps Building is inviting anyone from the community to come in and use their computers, pick up a hot cup of coffee/tea, or charge their cell phone.
