Dog Bite, Cut Screens and Sexually Explicit Letters from the Scarsdale Police

Ouch! A Congers man who works for the Village of Scarsdale Sanitation Department was bitten by a dog on Hamilton Road on August 7. When he drove into the driveway to collect the recyclables at 7:30 am the homeowner was out with the dog on a leash and dropped the leash to help with the collection. The dog then lunged at the sanitation man and bit his left thigh above his knee. Police told the dog's owner that the dog should be confined for ten days. The man also provided a copy of the dog's vaccinations to the police.
Screen Cutters:
- The secretary at Alcott Montessori School on Crane Road in Scarsdale reported that several of the window screens were damaged between August 5 -6. She did not know if all of the incidents occurred on the same night. Police determined that the screens had been pried from the window frames, damaging the frames. The screen locks were also broken.
- A screen, from the woman's bathroom at the tennis courts on Wayside Lane was damaged as well. The screen was removed and placed on some bushes sometimes on 8/10 – 8/11.
- On Lockwood Road a man reported that a one-foot square was cut out of the screen of his front porch sometime between August 5 and August 7. Nothing was missing from the house and it did not appear as if anyone had entered.
Collapsed Roadway: Church Lane residents called police at 8:45 pm on August 6 to report a water main break in front of their home. Police determined that the water "was not causing any hazards." However, by 9:30 pm a portion of the road had collapsed and traffic had to be diverted to allow the Water and Highway Departments to fix the break and repair the sunken roadway.
Missing:
- A portable grill, valued at $150 was stolen from a car parked in a driveway of a Fox Meadow Road home in early August.
- A fire extinguisher from a Scarsdale School bus was reported missing by one of the bus drivers. He checked several other buses and found that the extinguishers were missing from them as well. The thefts occurred between August 2 and August 5.
- On August 10, a 22 year-old British woman who works at the Quaker Ridge Golf Club reported that her British passport and visa were lost sometime on August 7.
Poison Letters:
- A 52-year-old Tunstall Road woman reported the receipt of a sexually graphic letter in the mail on August 8. The letter detailed the sexual acts that the sender hoped to perform with the woman. The woman did not know the sender or how he got her name and address.
- On August 7, Dr. William Greenberg of SkinTheraP in Scarsdale reported the receipt of threatening letters with sexual content. The matter is under investigation.
Stranger in the yard: A Brite Avenue nanny called police at 3 pm on August 5 when the children she cares for saw a man in a blue hoodie sweatshirt run through the yard and into the bushes. Police searched the area but were unable to find the suspect.
Care for a drink? A 7:57 am on August 7, someone from Zachys Liquor Store reported that a woman, who already appeared to be drunk was trying to purchase more liquor from the store. They turned her down and she left in a dark colored Honda. Police searched the area but were unable to find a woman matching the description.
Car entered: A Tompkins Road woman reported that somebody had going through her car when it was parked outside overnight on 8/6 – 8/7. Though the car contained money, jewelry and other valuables, nothing was missing.
Help: Police got a call about a 93 year-old man who had fallen when climbing up the exterior stairs to his home at 5 pm on August 10. Police spoke to the man and his wife who said they had fallen several times while trying to get the driveway before a neighbor game them a hand. The couple lives alone and police thought they could benefit from some help.
Suspended Registration: Police stopped a driver on Garth Road at 5 pm on August 5 after the scanner revealed that the registration was suspended. The registration was suspended for parking violations. The plates were removed from the car and the car was towed back to the owner's home. She was issued a summons for driving with a suspended license.
