Guns in the Hood and More from the Scarsdale Police

A Mamaroneck Road man turned over a pump rifle and seven additional guns to police on July 7 after a court ordered him to surrender the arms following a domestic incident. The firearms, now in police custody include the following:

• A Stevens .22 caliber pump action long gun (rifle)
• A Marlin .44 caliber lever action long gun
• A Mossberg 835 12 gauge shot gun
• A Ruger MKII .22 caliber handgun
• A Ruger SB .44 caliber handgun
• A Beretta 92F 9mm handgun
• A Sig Sauer P220R .45 caliber handgun

According to police, only handguns need to be registered in the county. Long guns require no permits. Police also say that many residents in Scarsdale keep guns in their homes and their neighbors have no way to find out what may be concealed.

Stolen Phone: A Potter Road woman reported that her iPhone was stolen when she was running on the high school track on the night of July 7th. She left her phone and a water bottle at the edge of the track at 9:50 pm and when she returned 20 minute later the phone was gone. She traced the location of the phone to Hartsdale and went to the address. However when she got there the phone had been turned off. Her voicemail message had already been changed and there was no way to locate the phone.

Stolen Bike: A bicycle that was locked to the MTA platform at Scarsdale Station was stolen on July 10th while its owner was at work in the city.

Identity Thefts:

A Kent Road couple reported that $5,500 had been withdrawn from their Chase bank account by an unknown person. The bank advised them that their account information had been changed on 7/7. The fraudulent transactions involved several accounts and money wiring. The accounts were subsequently closed.

A woman from Boulevard in Scarsdale said that someone had opened a fraudulent AT&T account in her name and accrued $1,266.39 in charges. Both her name and address were incorrectly shown and did not match her driver's license. AT&T did not hold her accountable for the charges.

A Carstensen Drive woman reported that someone attempted to open a credit card account in her name using her personal information on July 13th. The attempts were unsuccessful.

Kahlid Mughal of Baldwin Lane in Scarsdale surrendered to police in response to traffic violations on 7/11. He was released on $100 bail and given a court date of 7/16.

Lost: An Overhill Road man lost his wallet, containing his driver's license and several credit cards on July 12 near his home.

On the morning of 7/8, an Eton Road woman complained that her husband had left home with her wallet. Police contacted the man who denied having his wife's wallet. Police told the woman to go home and look for the wallet and she reported that afternoon that she found it.

Found: An unspecified amount of cash was found near the ATM machine at Chase on Palmer Avenue on July 12th.

Dispute: A Heathcote Road man called police on the morning of July 12 claiming that his neighbors threw rocks into his backyard and threatened to shoot him after an argument they had about him hitting golf balls into her yard. The neighbor said she had actually thrown a golf ball, not a rock, that she found on her front yard. She said she felt he purposefully hit golf balls at her.

Dogs: A Secor Road man complained that two dogs had charged at him and his five-month old child when he was walking to Balducci's on the evening of July 7. Another passerby said the dogs also approached her numerous times. Police spoke to the owner of the dogs who said they ran out of the house and left the property. The owner was warned to secure her dogs and police said she would receive a summons if they got another complaint.

Police got a call about a loose golden retriever on Bradley Road at 9:17 pm on the night of July 9th. Police found the dog, took possession of it and called the New Rochelle Humane Society to pick it up. At 11 o'clock the dog's owner called police who were able to intercept the Humane Society before they left with the dog. The dog was returned and the owner was given a summons.

Line on Fire: Murray Hill Road was closed at 5 am on July 8th after a power line went up in flames. The Fire Department, Con Edison and the Village Highway Department were called to put out the fire and repair the line. A power line fell across Griffen Avenue at 12:49 am on July 8th. The fire department and Con Edison closed the road while repairs were made.

Someone got stuck in the elevator at Freightway Garage at 5:38 pm on July 9. The Fire Department arrived and assisted in opening the elevator and freeing the passenger.

Reports of loud parties on 7/12 were made at the following locations:

• Brookby Road
• Post Road
• Leatherstocking Lane
• Park Road
• Springdale Road
• Bradford Road (7/13)

Suspended Registration: Vanessa A. Delia of New Rochelle was stopped while driving on Weaver Street on the morning of July 7 for driving a car with a suspended registration due to an insurance lapse. The plates were removed from the car and she was given a summons.
