Another Car Theft and Two Arrests

bmwArrested: A taxi driver called police because an Edgewood passenger was disputing a fare at 4 a.m., April 22. Police managed to broker a deal and resolve the matter. Since the passenger was almost in the vicinity of his parents' house, and therefore almost in violation of an order of protection, police drove the passenger to a White Plains shelter. This was done to eliminate any potential issues or temptations that might have been raised by the passenger's proximity to his parent's house. At approximately 9:20 a.m., the passenger – Jon Ghiozzi, 38, of Scarsdale – went to his parent's house and was arrested for violating the order of protection. Ghiozzi explained he went to his parents' house to ask for help finding his lost cell phone. He requested his parents give him a ride to the police department to report the lost phone, which they provided. This contact violated a current "Stay Away" Order of Protection, due to expire on April 19, 2019. Due to prior conviction of second-degree criminal contempt, Ghiozzi was charged with first-degree criminal contempt for violating an Order of Protection while having a prior conviction within the last five years. He was remanded to Westchester County Jail and ordered to appear at Scarsdale Village Justice Court April 26.

Car stolen from Old Lyme Road
A $37,000 2015 BMW X5 was stolen from an Old Lyme Road garage overnight April 17 into 18. Police discovered the theft while investigating instances of open garage doors in the village in the early morning hours. According to the owner, the car was parked at 12:30 a.m., April 18. It was discovered missing at 4 a.m. He told police it had been parked, unlocked, with the keys inside, in the owner's closed garage. Further investigation revealed that two other cars on Old Lyme Road were found to have been entered and tossed. Due to items left inside the cars, it was apparent that the perpetrators were looking for keys, in order to steal the cars.

DWI
Police saw a woman – Dorothy Lamore, 41, of Pleasantville –park and leave her 2007 Honda on Gatehouse Road at 2:15 a.m., April 23, and walk onto a resident's lawn. When she saw police, she quickly re-entered her running vehicle. Police made contact with her, and Lamore said, "I'm good." Police asked her what she was doing in the area, and she could not provide an answer. She once said she was coming from her home in Pleasantville. Later, she said she was going home to Pleasantville. She also said her husband was around the corner but could not provide his exact location. She also said she had "pulled over to relax." While talking with patrol, Lamore showed signs of intoxication – including glassy eyes and an alcoholic breath odor. She failed field sobriety tests. She refused to take an alco-sensor test. She was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated (first offense) and refusal to take a breath test. A computer check revealed Lamore had a past criminal history from Georgia, but there were no current warrants. She was released on $100 cash bail, with an appearance ticket for Scarsdale Village Justice Court on April 26.

Stolen phone
On April 23, a Post Road father reported his 13-year-old son's iPhone 6 cell phone was stolen from Scarsdale Middle School. It disappeared when the boy left it unattended on a bench in the locker room for about five minutes. The school was notified.

Identity theft
A Stonehouse Road resident reported at least three unauthorized charges on his Capital One credit card April 20. The charges were made at Orbitz, Delta Airlines and Cyber Trade. The bank's fraud department is following up.

Domestic matter
On April 22, a Quaker Ridge wife called police because she was "tired of arguing with her husband" and has allegedly "not been getting along with him for many years." She said he did not threaten her or engage in physical violence. Police discussed available options that might help her. She advised she was going to stay in a second bedroom for the foreseeable future and limit contact with him.

Welfare check
Police checked the wellbeing of a Post Road woman at the request of her ex-husband, who lives outside the county, April 20.

After reports of allegedly "erratic behavior," police checked the welfare of a Palmer Avenue woman. She was interviewed and did not seem to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. She was described as "disheveled" but did not request any medical or police assistance.

Open garage doors
On burglary patrol in the middle of the night, police noticed houses with open garage doors on Olmsted and Berkeley Roads and Wayside Lane during the hours of 1 a.m. to 4 a.m., April 20. Police notified the homeowners who stated their garage doors were either malfunctioning or the doors had been inadvertently left open. Police advised the homeowners to close the garage doors due to recent burglary activity in the community.

Police notified an Old Lyme Road woman about her open garage door April 21. She said her nanny must have left the door open.

Doorbell
Someone rang the doorbell of a Nelson Road house and ran off at 10:45 p.m., April 20. The homeowner said he looked out his window and did no see anyone. Police found no signs of criminality.

Detectives?
Two white men wearing raincoats and driving a black car went to a Harvest Drive front door April 21. The housekeeper did not open the door, but the men said they were detectives following up on crimes in the area. An identification badge was displayed, but details are not clear. According to neighbors, the men were seen walking to other houses on the street. The men were not members of the Scarsdale police department. Police are following up with other law enforcement agencies to determine if the men were on a legitimate investigation. No signs of criminality were observed.

CarnivalCar 3
Someone called police to report that kids were allegedly trying to cut a line for one of the rides at the high school carnival April 21. The caller said this action might cause "a disruption with the crowd." Police walked through the carnival and found all to be in good order. Patrol informed carnival management of the complaint, and they advised they would deploy adult staff to monitor areas where lines were forming.

Suspended
On April 17, police noticed a 2013 Lexus with duct tape covering the expiration date of a temporary Florida license plate, on the road at Weaver Street and Crossway. Police conducted a traffic stop. Closer inspection revealed the temporary tag was for a 1999 Lexus. The New Rochelle driver said he did not have a license on him and presented a passport for identification purposes. The driver said he "sold the car" and was not sure why the tags did not match the car. A DMV check of the car and the driver's pedigree information revealed the car's registration had been suspended in June because of over five unpaid parking violations. The driver's license had expired in October 2007. Police confiscated the car's license plates and had the car towed to the driver's house in New Rochelle. There, police spoke with the driver's caretaker, who authorized the car to be parked in the driveway. Appropriate summonses were issued.

Cars and roadways
A large stone fell from a stonewall by a Rochambeau graveyard April 17. Police picked it up and removed it from the street.

The Department of Public Works advised police of a large pothole on Cushman Road April 17.

Heathcote Gulf employees unlocked a car in the village to release an infant accidentally locked inside April 17.

A caller reported seeing a black SUV standing with its lights off on Whig Road April 20. The SUV was then seen driving into a garage. Police spoke with the driver of the SUV who sad he had been waiting on the street, attempting to contact his wife to open the garage door so he could enter and bring in groceries. Everything was in good order.

A parked car rolled onto the sidewalk at East Parkway and Christie Place April 21. It was determined the car had been left in neutral, and the emergency brake was not working properly.

Police moved a fallen wire from Oxford Road and notified Verizon April 21.

A driver with a flat tire was waiting for assistance in the Middle School parking lot after school hours April 21. While police were on scene, the driver's brother arrived to help repair or change the tire.

A Chateaux Circle woman asked police to investigate scratches on her car's windshield April 21. Police did not believe the scratches were intentional, but rather a result of debris hitting the car's windshield.

The water department was informed about a leaking water cap on Madison Road April 22.

A parked car rolled into the roadway on Ridgecrest West April 23. The driver said he must not have fully engaged the emergency brake.

Verizon was notified about a fallen wires on Bradley Road April 23.

Kids
Police dispersed kids from Boulevard after dark April 21. A caller reported the kids were urinating on trees and throwing beer bottles. Police did not observe anyone urinating. Nor did they see any alcoholic beverage bottles in the area. Nevertheless, the kids were warned. The kids, in turn, told police a larger group of kids had just left the area.

Police broke up an unsupervised youth party on Madison Road April 22. Patrol called the host's parents who said they would be home in 20 minutes.

Animals
Police issued a summons to a man whose dog was off lease on Boulevard April 17.raccoon

A Tompkins Road resident was concerned about a raccoon on her front porch at 5:15 p.m., April 20, and again curled up in a flowerpot on the back porch April 22. Police provided her with a list of trappers and their contact numbers.

A loose dog was found at Drake and Forest roads April 22. Police notified the owner, who picked up the dog – and received a verbal warning.

Noise
After a neighbor complained about noise, police advised a Palmer Avenue homeowner to shut off a generator because its motor was in violation of village noise restrictions April 24.

Lost and found
A Carman Road man found a child's bicycle at Davis Park April 17. It was vouchered at headquarters.

A Capital One credit card was found on Christie Place April 19. Patrol attempted to contact the issuing bank but did not reach anyone.

An electronic key in a brown case was found on Garth Road April 21. Police contacted the owner, and she picked it up from headquarters.

Firefighters
The water department was notified about a leaking fire hydrant on Elm Road April 17.

Firefighters helped a Post Road resident get into the resident's house after an accidental lock out April 18.

Con Edison was notified about a gas odor on Whig Road April 19.

A gas leak was found in a sanitary sewer at Drake and Jefferson roads April 20. Firefighters stood by for Con Edison and helped check houses for possible gas dangers.

An odor in an Ogden Road house was caused by an overheated motor of a rug-cleaning machine April 20. Firefighters helped ventilate the house.

A pot handle burned while the pot was cooking and caused an odor in a Ross Road house April 20. Firefighters removed the pot from the stove and ventilated the house.

A curling iron scorched the surface of a wooden dress in a Lebanon Road house April 20. The iron was unplugged and removed.

This week, firefighters assisted at three car accidents in the village and on parkways. They responded to 18 false carbon monoxide and fire alarms, caused by device malfunction, cooking smoke and shower steam.
