An earthquake hit our area around 1:50 pm today, Tuesday August 23rd. I was sitting at my desk when I felt the house shaking and thought we might have a woodpecker on the roof or an unwanted animal in the walls. After three rounds of tremors I stepped outside to investigate. The shaking stopped and minutes later my son called from Manhattan and said that there had indeed been an earthquake and his building was evacuated. People were out in the streets, not quite sure what to do.
According to the news, the epicenter of the 5.8 magnitude earthquake was in Mineral, Virginia, 35 miles from Richmond, VA but it was felt all the way up to Martha’s Vineyard where President Obama is vacationing.
