Scholarship funds are available for those entering college this year and students in their sophomore, junior or senior years. Here are the details:
Students who graduated from Scarsdale High School and/or live in Scarsdale and who have completed their first, second, or third years of college are invited to apply to the Scarsdale Foundation for tuition assistance. For the 2014-2015 academic year, the Foundation awarded $105,000 of need-based grants to 21 students attending private and state-supported colleges.
Applications should be submitted online on the Scarsdale Foundation's website, scarsdalefoundation.org (click on the College Scholarships link). Completed applications must be submitted by Friday, June 5, 2015. Late applications will not be accepted. Inquiries regarding scholarship applications should be directed to Beverley Sved, bevsved@alum.rpi.edu, (914) 472-8245, or Richard Toder, richtoder@gmail.com, (914) 723-6032.
The Foundation welcomes contributions from the community to augment the funds available for distribution each year. Contributions may also be donated to a specially earmarked Scholarship Fund of the Scarsdale Foundation, with monies to be used for 2015-2016 recipients, enabling the Foundation to carry on the Scarsdale tradition of helping our students in need to pursue a college education. Donations may be made online by visiting the Foundation's website or mailed to the Foundation at P.O. Box 542, Scarsdale, NY 10583.
For more information regarding the work of the Foundation, please contact Foundation President Evelyn Stock, (914) 472-4719, or visit the website, scarsdalefoundation.org.
Funds available for the first year of college from the SHS PTA Scholarship Fund - Deadline is May 1:
Applications for a one-year grant from the Scarsdale High School PTA Scholarship Fund for College are due May 1st. Graduating students in need of financial assistance with their first year of college are encouraged to apply. Grants are made to seniors in good standing and on the basis of demonstrated financial need. Grant amounts generally range from $1,000 to $7,500. There is no fixed number of recipients. Awards are based on need, the number of qualified applicants, and available funds. The Scholarship Fund Grant Committee makes allocations and administers the fund. All applications are held in the strictest confidence; applications are reviewed by number and not by name. The money available each year for scholarship grants comes from contributions by individuals, foundations, local businesses and community groups who have responded to an annual appeal, and from sales of "Gift of Education" cards.
The application form and the dean's evaluation form may be downloaded from the Scarsdale High School PTA website or may be obtained from the deans' offices at the high school.
