If you drive by Crossway Field, you may notice a new addition. The baseball fields now have dugouts for the players and bleachers for the fans, all courtesy of a generous gift to the Village from Scarsdale Little League.
Scott Werthamer from Scarsdale Little League told us, “The Crossway fields were in desperate need of an upgrade. The lack of dugouts and the condition of the existing seating did not provide an optimal playing or viewing experience.”
He said, “SLL has been working on various projects over the past few years, trying to find the best ways to give back to the community and improve the experience for our teams and the many teams we regularly host at Crossway.”
Scarsdale Little League (“SLL”) is currently the largest youth athletic program in the Village of Scarsdale, with children in grades Pre-K through 8 participating in the league’s spring, summer, and fall in-house and travel programs. The league is administered by a 15-member board of directors, composed entirely of parent volunteers.
SLL was able to raise the money for the dugouts and bleachers without holding a specific fundraiser. Instead, the initiative was made possible through the generosity and support of SLL families and friends over the years who believe in the league’s mission.
With funds in hand, the SLL board, in cooperation with the Village of Scarsdale hired JR Mason to build the dugouts, fencing, and bleachers. Once completed, SLL gifted the finished project to the Village.
The new dugouts and bleachers are a home run for Scarsdale Little League and the Village of Scarsdale.
