Village Invites Bids for 32 Ferncliff Road Plus Home Sales and Featured Listings

The Village of Scarsdale invites sealed bids for the purchase of a Village-owned property located at 32 Ferncliff Road in Scarsdale.
The property, 32 Ferncliff Road, is improved with a two-story, single family home built in 1928 and is classified as Old Style architecture. The house is 2,195 square feet, featuring two full baths, one half bath, four bedrooms, one fireplace, a full basement, and an unfinished attic. The sole building lot is 10,454 square feet with 100 feet of frontage. The property consists of two tax lots considered merged for zoning purposes. The home is located in the A-4 zoning district, which requires a minimum building lot of 7,500 square feet with no less than 60 feet of frontage.

Six More Homes Could Be Demolished

While most will be focused on the Village election on Tuesday March 21, the Committee for Historic Preservation will meet that same night at 8 pm to consider the demolition of six more homes. The razing of homes has continued at a brisk pace this past year as the Village has not changed any of the preservation or building code that could limit what can be torn down or be built. In addition, though the Committee for Historic Preservation did vote to preserve several homes, legal challenges have been made to appeal both decisions.
Here are six more homes that are on the agenda for Tuesday night's meeting. Applications have been filed for permission to demolish them.
175 Nelson Road built in 1909- This home was first on the agenda of the January meeting of the Committee, and held over until March. It was at one time the home of Scarsdale Fire Captain GW Smith and the garage is said to have been the first firehouse in Scarsdale.

Curious readers have been asking what's being built at 18 Heathcote Road where a massive steel frame is up – but not much else. The 5 plus acre site was once the home of Leonard and Virginia Marx who gave a $300,000 bequest to Scarsdale Library in 2007 for the renovation of the library reference room. After the 9200 square foot home was sold it was extensively renovated -- and included a pool and tennis court. That home was demolished to clear
the way for this new structure.
We stopped by Village Hall to look at the plans and see that an 8,800 square foot main house with a three-car garage is planned, as well as a two-bedroom guesthouse and garage.
The new house is designed by architect Anthony Minichetti of Greenwich and includes some enticing features such as a large circular bar, a teen lounge with a soda fountain and a 50' x 26' gym on the second floor.

Another expansive home is going up at 96 Morris Lane, where the original 1965 ranch has been torn down. The home was at one time rented by Andrea Sanderlin who was arrested for running a sophisticated marijuana growing and processing operation in 2013.
A very large home has now been built on the site and the owners applied for a variance to build a pool and tennis court that was reviewed at the March 8 meeting of the Zoning Board of Appeals.
