Scarsdale has changed procedures at the Take it or Leave It shed, located at the Scarsdale Recycling Center at 110 Secor Road. Though you can drop off items whenever the Recycling Center is open, pick-ups of donated items will only be permitted on Saturdays from 8 am to 3 pm.
This change may have been made due to excessive traffic at the site – and to discourage people from loitering at the shed.
The memo from the Village says, “The Department has constructed a new “Take It” shed, located adjacent to the scale, at the entrance to the Recycling Center. This shed will be closed during the week, and open from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturdays. Public access will be limited to these designated hours.
The existing shed will be designated as a “Leave It” shed. Reusable items in good condition may be dropped off during the Recycling Center’s normal operating hours (Monday - Saturday, 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM). All items will be inspected by Department staff and stored temporarily within the shed. The shed will not be accessible to the public; items will be stored only and not made available for browsing or retrieval.
Prior to each Saturday, Department staff will transfer suitable items from the “Leave It” shed to the “Take It” shed. Items deemed inappropriate for the program will be properly disposed of.
These changes are intended to improve organization, safety, and overall program efficiency while continuing to support the Village’s waste reduction goals. To date, the TiLi Program has been a successful initiative, helping to divert reusable items from the waste stream and reduce disposal costs for the Village.
