Police Report : Post Office At Golden Horseshoe Closed After Driver Causes Structural Damage

The Post Office in the Golden Horseshoe Shopping Center is closed indefinitely after an accident at 1:20 pm on Thursday July 6. An elderly driver drove a black Audi over the sidewalk and into the exterior wall of the post office on Thursday July 6. The accident cracked the outside brick wall but also compromised the integrity of the building. Inside the glass door is broken, the window area is in disarray and the entry is taped off. Two postal workers who are working inside advised visitors not to step inside. They said that they do not know when the damage will be repaired.

Stolen
On July 9, patrol was approached by a man who reported that his bike was stolen from a bike rack on East Parkway. It was described as a gray specialized hybrid bike secured to the rack with a lock at approximately 10:30 a.m. The man said he went into Starbucks for approximately 5 minutes, and upon his return, he noticed his bike was no longer on the bike rack.

Earlier this week, a package marked as delivered to a Drake Road house was reported as stolen July 3.

Burglary activity
A Meadow Road resident reported finding damage to a rear door that could indicate a possible burglary attempt July 4. Criminal entry to the house was not successful.
On July 7, a Sheldrake Road woman reported her house had been burglarized.

Identity theft
On July 3, a Shawnee Road man reported suffering financial loss due to identity theft. He presented a letter received June 30 related the incident.

Altercations
On July 6, police separated two individuals fighting on the platform of the Scarsdale train station and waited for MTA police to arrive.

On July 6, police mediated a verbal dispute between two drivers whose cars were parked on Depot Place. One driver could not enter her car because the cars were parked too close together.

Suspicious
A sticky substance was found on a public mailbox at Woodland Place. Police blocked off the box and notified the post office July 8.

Wrong address
On July 5, a Rodney Road man reported receiving a FedEx envelope addressed to an unknown party, with the man’s address on the shipping label. Police advised him to return the envelope to FedEx.

Help
Police were asked to help with a male who would not follow the rules of the recreation department summer camp at Edgewood School July 3. Police spoke with the male, and he complied.

A mother visiting her daughter went out for a walk and got lost in the area of Cushman and Mamaroneck roads July 4. Police provided her with a courtesy ride home.

A caller reported a possibly intoxicated man lying down at a bus stop on Fenimore Road July 6. Police checked on the man and discovered he had a laceration on his head. He declined assistance and said he was waiting for the next bus, due to arrive in 10 minutes.

Landscapers working on Sheldrake Road reported discovering a hole in a resident’s second floor window, possible made by a rock July 7.

A woman was sitting on a bench crying during the Village center famer’s market July 8. Police offered assistance, but the woman just got up and walked away without saying anything.

Civil matter
On July 7, Brambach Road residents were trimming shrubs on the property line and arguing about it. Police mediated the dispute and advised them to only trim shrubs on their respective sides of the property line.

Cars and roadways
On July 3, a New Rochelle driver was observed on Popham Road driving with a cell phone in hand. A traffic stop was conducted and multiple summonses were issued, including a summons for unlicensed driving.

On July 4, a wire fell on Eastwoods Lane July 4. Police stood by for Con Edison.

A driver reported striking a fire hydrant at Walworth Avenue and Fenimore Road July 4. There were no injuries, and firefighters and water department workers arrived to address the hydrant.

Police conducted a traffic stop of a car travelling without functional taillights on Crane Road July 5. Multiple summonses, including a summons for unlicensed driving, were issued to the Spring Valley driver.

On July 5, a car battery died on Mamaroneck Road. Police stood by while the driver waited for her husband to arrive to jump the battery.

On July 6, police found a parked vehicle with scofflaw status in Village center. While police were on scene, the vehicle’s owner arrived and stated that she would pay the unpaid parking tickets immediately. Dispatch contacted Scarsdale Village Court and authorized the owner to come in and pay the tickets instead of having the vehicle towed.

On July 7, following a chain reaction rear-end collision involving four cars on Fenimore Road, police issued a summons to one Mount Vernon driver charged with driving with a suspended registration.

Police notified Con Edison about a fallen power line on Post Road July 8.

Police and firefighters secured a low-hanging utility wire on Weaver Street July 9.

Two car accidents were officially reported in the Village this week.

Animals
Police notified the highway department about a dead rabbit on Morris Lane July 7.

Lost and found
A caller found undisclosed “property” under the Dine in the Dale tent located in Village center and gave it to police July 4.

On July 5, a Brewster Road resident reported she was supposed to receive her NYS non-driver ID in the mail. However, when she received the envelope, it was open and the ID was not inside.

Village code
An illegally posted sign on Fenimore Road was removed and discarded from a homeowner’s front lawn July 5. The homeowner said he did not place the sign there.

On July 8, police issued a verbal warning to a pest control solicitor who was attempting to sell services without a permit on Morris Lane.

A Park Road outdoor speaker was accidentally transmitting music outdoors after 3 a.m., July 10. Police advised the homeowner, and the music was shut off.

Firefighters
On July 3, a primary electrical wire was down and burning on Stratton Road.  Con Edison was requested due to the proximity of the burning wire to the gas service of a house service. Firefighters checked the adjacent telephone poles for damage and blocked the area. Con Ed de-energized the downed wire at the top of the pole and checked for damage to the underground gas service. Con Ed Gas reps found no evidence of damage to their underground mains and service in that area.

On July 3, firefighters helped a Meadow Road resident turn off a gas grill.

Firefighters assisted at a car accident at Fenimore Road and Palmer Avenue July 5. Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps took injured drivers to the hospital.

Firefighters stood by for Con Edison at the site of burning wires on Sage Terrace July 6.

Firefighters shut water to a leaking hose at a Weaver Street house July 6 after the homeowners reported seeing an outdoor water condition on security cameras while they were away.

On July 9, a Stratton Road resident reported her electric panel “blew out” and was smoking. Firefighters responded to the house. After entering the basement, personnel encountered light smoke with an odor of burning and noticed the electrical distribution panel with a hole blown through the door and charred throughout. Firefighters performed a thorough investigation throughout the structure and found no additional hazards other than the basement panel.

Con Edison also checked the house and advised that the residence was safe and instructed the homeowner to contact an electrician.

On July 9, a lightning strike knocked out power in another Stratton Road house. Firefighters and Con Edison investigated and advised the homeowner to contact an electrician.

A power line fell at Carman and Madison roads July 9. Firefighters stood by for Con Edison.

Firefighters helped move a fallen branch from Mamaroneck Road July 9.
