Phone Scam

Police issued the following warning on Tuesday December 11, 2024:

The Scarsdale Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam targeting individuals in the area. Residents from three other municipalities have reported receiving fraudulent phone calls today from unknown numbers. The callers claim to be representatives of the Scarsdale Police Department and claim that the recipients have missed a court date in Scarsdale.
The scammers are using accurate titles and names of retired Scarsdale Police officers to appear legitimate. While the individuals who reported the calls recognized the scam and quickly hung up, preventing further interaction, it is suspected that the callers were attempting to solicit money to "resolve" the missed court issue.

The Scarsdale Police Department emphasizes that it will never contact residents by phone regarding missed court dates. If you receive a suspicious call claiming to be from the Scarsdale Police, do not engage with the caller. Instead, hang up immediately and contact the department directly at (914) 722- 1200 to verify any claims.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and share this information with family, friends, and neighbors to prevent potential victims from falling prey to this scam. For any additional concerns or to report suspicious activity, please reach out to the Scarsdale Police Department directly at (914) 722-1200.
