Car Break-ins: Six cars in Quaker Ridge were entered overnight on October 8 – 9. To deter vandals, police advise residents to park inside the garage and close the door overnight. Car thefts are an easy way for vandals to make quick hits.
On Haverford Road vandals entered two cars that were unlocked and parked in the driveway. They stole a Gramin GPS from each car. On Meadow Road, two windows were broken on a 2005 Volvo and a Lanvin handbag, valued at $1,500 as well as $100.00 were stolen. Other items from the car were found scattered on the front lawn of a neighbor’s home. Also on Meadow Road the driver’s side window of a 2010 Honda was broken and a Garmin GPS was stolen. On Penn Boulevard an unlocked 2009 GMC was entered, and thieves made off with an apple computer and computer bag, a wallet, a Marc Jacobs purse and a camera, together valued at $3,650. In addition, other items from the car were found on a neighbor’s property across the street. On Old Lyme Road, the driver’s side window of a 2007 Lexus was broken and an iPod and charger, plus sunglasses were taken from the car.

Dead on Arrival: Anthony Esposito, age 78 of Gaylor Road was pronounced dead by Scarsdale Paramedic Al Garavito. Mr. Esposito’s wife was out and returned home at 6:15 pm on October 7 and found her husband unresponsive at the kitchen table.

Party! Police broke up a drinking party on Harvest Drive, shortly before 11 pm on October 9th and issued a summons to an 18 year-old Scarsdale boy for unlawful possession of alcohol. Police found empty beer cans on the lawn and inside the house and the inebriated host admitted that there was no one over the age of 21 at home. A family friend came to take the boy to her house. Parents of the other youths at the house were called to pick up their kids.

Police asked a group of youths at George Field Park at 10 pm on 10/8 to leave the area and they complied.

At 1:05 am on 10/10 police were called to break up a party on Greenacres Avenue. They found red plastic cups and an empty bottle of Jim Beam but the partiers were gone.

Fraud at CVS on Popham Road –Victor DiRoma, the manager of CVS, called police at 8:50 pm on 10/7 to report that three customers had purchased$1,400 of American Express gift cards and charged them to a fraudulent credit cards. The suspects were described as a black female with long black hair, a black male wearing a black hat and another black female with long black hair, wearing a black and white striped shirt. The transactions were recorded on video.

Gone: A commuter locked his black Showgun bicycle on East Parkway on the morning of October 8. When he returned at 6 pm the bike and his helmet were gone.

Found: A Fox Meadow Road woman found a Le Sports Sac change purse containing $25, a key and a Yogo Joy store business car in the Fox Meadow School playground on October 4th. The purse was turned over to Scarsdale police.

Complaint: Workers doing construction on Popham Road Bridge complained to the police on October 5 that the Freightway Garage Valet was blocking access to the job site with cars. The Valet hopes to design a drop-off process to alleviate problems in the future.

Summons: A Kingston Road man was issued a summons on October 8 for ignoring a stop work order for construction at his house. Police accompanied the representative from Village Hall Enforcement to the Kingston Road home.

Unwanted Guests: An Old Lyme Road man asked police to stop by as a gray car was parked in his driveway. The passengers in the car claimed to be old friends of the resident on Old Lyme. Please told the visitors that the resident no longer wished to see them and instructed them to leave and refrain from making contact in the future.

Police were called to Fox Meadow School at 4 pm on 10/8 when a man with a backpack entered the rear entrance of the school. When he was asked what he was doing in the school, he said he was cutting through the school to Brewster Road. At 6 pm, police received another report of a man wandering near the library.

Disputes: On October 5, an angry high school student approached an Ogden Road woman when he found a ticket on the car he had parked illegally in front of her house. He knocked on the door of the women’s home and asked her if she had called the police. When she replied no, he asked when her husband would be home.

On October 11, a Black Birch Lane mother reported that her daughter was being harassed on the phone by a former friend. Police contacted the girl who was making the calls who now lives in Riverdale. She told police that she believes that her friend in Scarsdale stole $60 in cash and a $200 Tiffany bracelet from her when she visited her in Riverdale. The mother agreed to speak with her daughter and find out what was going on.

Guns: On the afternoon of October 6, a Heathcote Road woman called police to pick up two handguns from her home for safekeeping. On 10/10 a Lebanon Road man called to surrender a found pistol.

Missing: Concerned Brookline Road residents called police at 7 pm on 10/6 to help them locate their 13 year old son who left the house without telling his parents where he was going. By the time the police arrived, the boy’s mother had located him.

A White Plains woman came to the Scarsdale Police station to report that she removed two rings from her hand while getting her nails done at Accent Nails on Harwood Court on October 11 and left the shop without them. When she got home she realized her mistake and called Accent who said the rings were gone. Missing are a diamond ring worth $8,000 and a band with bluestones valued at $1,000.

Fire: Police, and the Scarsdale Fire Department responded to the report of a small fire in the boiler room at 6 Overhill Road at 7 am on 10/7. The Fire Department got it under control.

Suspicious Man: A Sage Terrace woman called police at 8:45 am when she saw a man standing near her yard looking at her house. Police were unable to find the man who was described as Asian and six feet tall.

Help: A Park Road many asked police for assistance moving some of his personal items out of his home on the afternoon of October 7th. Police found that the man’s belongings were already packed and the moving company was permitted to transport the boxes.

Drunk: A Walworth Avenue man reported a drunk man walking in traffic on Walworth at 10 pm on 10/10. Police were unable to locate the suspect.

Animals: A wild turkey was spotted at the intersection of Brite Avenue and Ogden Road shortly before 6 pm on October 4th.

A Hampton Road woman called police about a sick raccoon on the street on October 5. When police arrived, the raccoon had died on the lawn, but another sick raccoon appeared and police shot it. Another sick raccoon was reported on Leatherstocking Lane at 12:35 pm on 10/6

A Sylvan Lane woman called police at 1:38 am on 10/9 when she heard noises in her home. Police found a chipmunk running around the living room and helped get the animal outside.

A Stratton Road woman found a small black and white dog in her yard at 10:20 pm on 10/9. The dog had no tags and police picked up the dog and brought to the New Rochelle Humane Society.

burglar Residents who live near the Fenway Golf Course are finding that they have more to contend with than coyotes. On the night of October 2nd a home on Cayuga Road was burglarized, sometime between 8 and 10 pm. Vandals broke a window in the living room to gain entry and tossed the bedrooms, apparently in search of jewelry. Though the homeowners have not supplied a complete list of what was taken it appears that the thieves made off with jewelry.

Accident: A 20 year-old girl, driving her friend’s 2010 Toyota at 11:40 pm on October 3rd lost control of the car on Morris Lane due to wet roads. The car skidded, hit a village-owned tree, a fire hydrant and a utility pole and came to a stop on the front lawn of 100 Morris Lane, damaging the grass. The police, Con Edison, the water department and SVAC were all called to help. Neither the girl nor her passenger requested medical attention.

Knife: Police confiscated a folding knife from Olatunde Oladipo of White Plains on September 29, when he attempted to enter Scarsdale Village Court with the knife in his pocket. Police were tipped off by the metal detector.

Guns: A Springdale Road man who was moving out of town called police to turn in a scarsdale-police-car200 rifle and a shotgun to be destroyed on the afternoon of 9/28. However, later that same day, he had a change of heart and decided to give the guns away rather than turn them into the police.

Disobedience: On 9/29 a traffic officer on Depot Place tried to stop and Edgemont man as his inspection sticker had expired. The officer approached the man in the car who drove away. As the car swung past him again, the officer tried to stop it, but the driver proceeded, narrowly missing the officer. Police went to the man’s Henry Street home and the man claimed that his parking meter was just about up, and that he had avoided the officer in order to get back to his car before the meter expired. However, the patrolman said that the meter was not expired.

Mischief: On the night of 9/27 the doorbell rang at a Donellan Road home. When the homeowner opened the door he found an orange traffic cone. He believes some kids left it there. Police returned the cone to the Fox Meadow School.

Disputes: On 9/28 Alan Zaitz of Popham Road got into an argument with a driver when Zaitz crossed Popham Road against the light and was almost hit by a car driven by a Taunton Road man. The doorman at 45 Popham called the police to break up the heated verbal altercation.

On 9/30 A Fox Meadow Road man got into a dispute with his neighbor’s landscaper who was throwing debris on the Fox Meadow man’s property. The landscaper agreed not to do it again.

On 10/1, Lebanon Road residents reported that the caretakers of the residence next door were leaving garbage at the curb too far in advance of pick-up.

An employee at Bodyfit on Scarsdale Avenue called police for assistance when a former member refused to leave the premises. The owner of Bodyfit explained that the woman’s membership had been terminated and her refund had been sent out via Fedex. She left the premises willingly.

Arrests: At midnight on 10/2 Michael Arciuolo of White Plains was stopped by White Plains and turned over to Scarsdale Police where there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest for a traffic violation. A check of his license revealed that he was also wanted in Beacon, New York for driving while intoxicated. At 2:50 am on 10/3 Arciuolo was transported to Beacon for booking as well.

Hassan Samid, age 20 was turned over to Scarsdale Police by Tarrytown Police at 1:30 am on 9/28 due to an outstanding bench warrant. Samid was processed and released on $50 cash bail.

Trees: A large tree branch fell across Mamaroneck Road near Griffen Road at 11:50 am on 9/30 and blocked the roadway. The highway department removed the branch. More tree branches fell and blocked the intersection of Ramsey and Secor Road at 5:55 am on 10/1 and the intersection of Edgewood and Nelson Roads at 7:52 am on 10/1.

Due to weather-related switch problems, Metro North Service was suspended on the Harlem Line south of White Plains early this morning, October 1. At 6:30 am the train failed to arrived and hundreds were lined up on the platform of the Hartsdale train station awaiting their ride to work. Garbled messages delivered over the p.a. system were unintelligible, leaving computers to wonder if and when train service would resume. By 7:00 pm service was resumed, but there are 30 to 60 minute delays, so be patient this morning.

kingspa A Flushing woman, employed at the King Spa at 100 North Central Avenue in Hartsdale, turned out to be offering massages plus something more. According to the Greenburgh Police, when a member of the Greenburgh Police Drug and Alcohol Task Force visited the spa on Thursday evening September 30, the massage therapist offered to “engage in sexual conduct” with the man as part of his treatment.

Massage therapist, Wenyu Piao of Flushing was arrested and charged with one count of “unauthorized practicing of a profession.” She was arraigned before Judge Arlene Gordon-Oliver in Greenburgh and sent to the Valhalla jail. She is due back in court on October 1st.

A Google search for the King Spa, brings up a link for a “happy ending massage.” massage However in this case there was no happy ending for Ms. Piao and presumably none for the officer either.

Locked in at CVS: On Saturday night 9/25 the alarm went off at CVS on Popham Road at 10:20 pm. When Detective Matthew Miraglia of the Scarsdale Police went to investigate at 10:28 pm he found a customer who had been locked inside the store after closing. The customer, a Brite Avenue woman had been stuck inside the store since the 10 pm closing. She entered the store near closing time to make a quick purchase and when she returned to the register to make her purchase, the store was locked and empty. Police were able to locate store manager, Victor Dirona to let her out. The store declined to comment on the incident.

Accidents: On the night of 9/24 police received a 911 call saying that an elderly woman had fallen to the ground and was screaming for help on Brambach Road. Police found the injured woman, Junko Maruyama of White Plains, who told them that she had parked her 2010 Lexus on Brambach Road and attempted to get out of the car. While she was exiting the vehicle, it rolled back and knocked her over. As the car rolled, it ran over the 62 year-old women’s arm. Though she believed she had placed the gearshift in “park”, the police found it in “reverse.” Ms. Marujama was taken to the Westchester Medical Center for treatment.

A Scarsdale police car rear-ended a car driven by a Kew Gardens man at the intersection of Secor Road and Palmer Avenue at 4 pm on September 21. The officer driving the police car reported that the car malfunctioned and accelerated, though he had his foot on the brakes. No injuries occurred.

Flying Objects: An angry Scarsdale High School boy started a fight on the afternoon of September 21 when another boy could not give him a ride a home in his car. The disappointed boy pushed and shoved the driver and attempted to get into the front seat. When he could not get in, he kicked the passenger side window of the car and then picked up a rock and threw it at the car and damaged the passenger side door. The boy’s parents will handle the matter.

minipumpkin A small pumpkin was thrown through the garage window of a Barry Road home on the night of 9/25-9/26. The shattered glass fell on the resident’s car, which was parked inside the garage.

That same night, a Tunstall Road man heard a loud thud and screeching tires outside his home at 1:14 am. He went outside to find that someone had thrown a rock or a brick at the driver’s side window of his 2008 Lexus, which was parked in front of his home. The rock damaged the window and police were unable to locate the culprits.

Police received a complaint on the afternoon of 9/24 from some school children who said that as they were walking home from school a man got out of his red mustang and yelled at them. Police were able to locate the man and got a different story. His car had been struck by what he believed to be a rock thrown by a kid on the sidewalk. The driver did speak to the kids and one said that one of the students who had run off had thrown the rock.

Death: Daniel Sitomer, formerly of Colvin Road in Scarsdale died in Greenwich, CT on September 14 at 1 am of unknown causes. He is survived by his ex-wife and daughter, who currently reside in Scarsdale.

Mischief: On September 20, the head custodian of the Heathcote Elementary School reported that he found three fifth grade boys on the roof of the school. The boys had moved garbage cans and milk crates and they were brought to the Principal who notified their parents.

A new church sign posted at St. Pius was scratched and grooved and the molding was damaged over night on 9/22-9/23. The sign is valued at $4,000 and the damage was assessed at $250.00

A Forest Hills man parked his 2002 Lexus on Ridgecrest West while he attended a party on the afternoon of September 19. He subsequently found a swastika and a Jewish star scratched into the paint on the trunk of his car and he believes the damage was done while he was in Scarsdale.

A Kent Road woman found the words FEAR HSEEN written on a step of her walkway on the afternoon of September 22nd. Her house had also been egged in August.

Harassed: A Springdale Road man complained of harassment from a man who approached him in the Christie Place garage on two occasions. On July 19 the man touched him with the tip of his umbrella and said, “I am going to beat you up.” He then followed the victim to the train station while repeatedly attempting to trip him. The complainant had beeped at the man in the garage before the incident. Subsequently, on 9/20 he saw the man again, who stopped the complainant, tried to put his arm into his car and said, “Are you going to honk at me this time?”

An angry postal worker yelled at two employees of Scarsdale Village when they were conversing in their cars in the Village Hall Parking lot at 5 pm on September 22. The postal worker was in a hurry to cut through the lot in his vehicle and was blocked by the cars of the Village employees. When they didn’t move quickly enough, the postman got out of his car, and shouted and cursed at them in an aggressive manner.

A Madison Road woman called police shortly after midnight on 9/27 to intervene in a fight she was having with her 14 year-old daughter over a potential lip piercing. She asked the police for assistance in mediating the disagreement.

Threatening Passenger: While riding the Bee Line Bus north on the Post Road on September 20, Gary Graham of Mt. Vernon threatened to kill another passenger on the bus. Though he was speaking loudly, his comments were not directed at a specific person so he was asked to get off the bus and he complied.

Arrests: police stopped Dana Simmons of New Rochelle when he was speeding in a 2000 Nissan on the Heathcote Bypass on the morning of September 25. Police found that Mr. Simmons’ driver’s license was suspended and that there was an active warrant for his arrest in New Rochelle. He was arrested and transported to the Scarsdale Police station where the New Rochelle police picked him up.

Scarsdale Police stopped Natalia Gourari of Manhattan on the afternoon of September 22 when she was driving on the Post Road and using her cell phone. It turns out she has a suspended driver’s license so she was charged with operating a motor vehicle while talking on a cell phone and failure to exhibit a driver’s license. She is scheduled to appear in Scarsdale Court on 10/6.

Missing: A Claremont Road woman left the key to her 2009 Acura and her Blackberry Tour at the bottom of her driveway while she made a brief visit to her neighbor’s house on the afternoon of 9/24. When she returned, both the car key and phone were gone.

A Tompkins Road woman lost a solid gold ring last week and asks anyone who finds it to return it to the Scarsdale Police.

Identity Theft: A Seneca Road couple discovered that someone had obtained fraudulent checks that linked to their account at Wachovia Bank and cashed eight checks, totaling $14,078.77 during the month of August. All of the checks show an address of a branch of the bank that does not exist and include forged signatures. The bank is investigating the incident.

Unlawful Watering: A Fairview Road woman alerted police on September 23 that a neighbor was watering the lawn at an unauthorized time. Police approached the house and spoke to the housekeeper who was unsure of how to regulate the automatic sprinkler systems. Police were unable to reach the homeowners so no summons was issued.

coyote Residents continue to call police to report coyote sightings, despite the fact that police policy is to leave the animals alone unless they are injured or acting in a threatening manner. An article in the NY Times on September 27, says that coyotes are somewhat of a mystery, but experts believe they may actually be hybrids of both wolves and dogs. The article warns residents against feeding coyotes but also reveals that coyotes may help control the goose population as they feed on goose eggs.
